Tributes to David Rowe - South Florida Lawyer
David Rowe, Esq. 20 Years to the Florida Bar
Outstanding Legal Service
CONGRATULATIONS TO my good friend David Rowe on twenty years of providing outstanding legal service.
I have known David for most of those twenty years as we were in the same law firm in Miami in the '80s. We all recognized when David joined the
firm that we had a very bright and principled attorney among us. Over the following twenty years his work products and ethical standards have always
been maintained at the highest level. it has been my pleasure to know and work with David. I am proud of his many accomplishments and wish him good
health and success in the future.

Great Teacher
I WAS ONE of Professor Rowe's
Caribbean Law students at the University of Miami School of Law in the
spring of 2000. His teaching style motivated me to go beyond the standard
preparation for a law school class. We were expected to have a mastery of
the subject matter, draw parallels, and think critically. Debate was
encouraged, and we had to back up our opinions with facts.
The 72 hour take‑home final exam was one of
the greatest intellectual challenges that I have ever faced. It came during
my last semester during law school, and gave me the confidence that I could
synthesize and analyze large amounts of information and reach a final
conclusion. When I saw Professor Rowe again after graduating from law
school and taking the Florida Bar and recounted the experience of the
Caribbean Law final exam, he responded, "You're now prepared to go out
and practice law." Professor Rowe puts
his heart into practicing and teaching the law. I am one of the fortunate
group of students to have had the opportunity to learn from and with him.
He is an excellent practitioner, an engaging professor, and a true mentor.

Brilliant Legal Mind
IT IS WITH sense of
compatriotic pride that I congratulate David Rowe, Esq. on his 20th
Anniversary at the Florida Bar. Twenty years is a significant milestone,
and even moreso, when it is achieved at a comparatively young age. The excellence and versatility of a brilliant legal mind are the hallmarks of Mr. Rowe's career. He has distinguished himself as a Student, Advocate, Defender and
Professor of Law. During my tenure as Consul
General of Jamaica in Miami, David Rowe's pro bono assistance to my office
and to individuals of the Jamaican/Caribbean community in areas of civil,
criminal and constitutional law, will always be cause for grateful
recollections. Indeed, his legal advice and
opinions to the Consular contingent from CARICOM countries in Miami
concerning the implications of Federal Laws enacted post September 11, were
invaluable in advising our respective communities and Governments. The
careers of Caribbean and other Law Students at the University of Miami are
enhanced by his expertise and the sharing of his experiences and good
example. May I wish continued success for
this distinguished son of Jamaica and the Caribbean. JOHN P. ATKINS

A man of great distinctionI
HAVE KNOWN David Rowe for almost twenty years. My association with him goes back
to his days at Holland & Knight where he worked his way up to become a
partner at that firm. David handled many of the large Corporate accounts in
Miami and did so with great distinction and became known as an attorney with
determination. David left Holland and Knight to work on his own, and he has
continued with the same drive as his earlier days. David is committed to the
cause of Justice and is very much involved in civic activities.
David has not forgotten his roots and has always kept
close to the West Indian Community in North America, where he is highly regarded
and respected. He is a loyal cricket fan and can at any time give strong
opinions on the ills of West Indies Cricket.Sincerely,
RICHARD VASCONCELLOS President, ANK Enterprises, Inc, Miami, FL.
Jamaica is proud of youDAVID P. ROWE was born with a 'law gene'" he inherited from his illustrious father
Honourable Justice Ira Rowe a former renowned High Court Judge in Jamaica. I
have known David for over twenty (20) years and had the 'SPOTLIGHT' on
him from he started his brilliant law career as a forceful lawyer with the
outstanding Miami law firm of Holland and Knight. In his twenty (20) years of Law
practice David presently owns his own law firm in Miami and is a Member of the
Florida and Jamaica Bar and an Associate professor of Law University of Miami
School of Law. Jamaica is proud of you as your
loyalty, fair dealing and fine qualities have made the outstanding advancement
that you have accomplished.ALVIN A. THOMPSON Managing Director AGRI‑CHEMICALS(JAMAICA) LTD. 9 Marescaux Road
First Caribbean Partner in Holland & Knight
I KNOW DAVID long before he was an attorney ‑ I even
knew his father, Ira Rowe, who was the President of the Court of Appeal in
Jamaica, and was one of my mentors in life. When David joined Holland & Knight, he was my attorney
here in Florida and was very helpful in getting me my Federal Maritime License,
which allowed me to have a totally bonded warehouse. We were probably one of the first people to go online with
the Federal Martine mission, which you could do all your documents on line. He was the first Caribbean attorney to become a partner in
the law firm of Holland & Knight, one of the largest law firms in South
Florida. He also led the team of attorneys that acted on behalf of
Industrial Commercial Development in Jamaica in their lawsuit against the U.S.
Customs for preventing a shipment of galvanized sheets going into Puerto Rico. He successfully argued and won that case. The great thing has been his giving back to the community
in terms of town hall meetings, advice on radio to the whole Caribbean
community. I am truly proud of him.
He is also an avid sports person and does sports commentary on 1080 AM on
Saturday morning where he is known as the "bulldog".

Exhibit academic and professional
excellence
I CONGRATULATE David Rowe on the
20th anniversary of his admission to the Florida Bar. From the early years of
the Cave Hill Campus until now he has continued to exhibit academic and
professional excellence joined with profound sense of community. Always
active in the church and mentoring the young or disabled, he's a shining example
to which all young Jamaicans should aspire, both home and abroad. I applaud his
academic achievements, professional development and unflinching patriotism for
the past two decades with the hope and expectation that he will eventually
follow his learned father into the service of the public at large.

IT IS WITH great pleasure that I
congratulate my friend David Rowe on the celebration of twenty years of law
practice. I have known David for many years
and during that period I have been privileged to work with him on several legal
matters. His father Mr. Ira Rowe was a distinguished member of the bar and was a
Judge of the Court of Appeal for many years which he served with distinction
and delivered many judgments of great importance. David renders legal service in Florida and has helped in particular Jamaican citizens and the Government with

DedicationDAVID ROWE IS A valued member of
the University of Miami Law School community, and has an impressive level of
dedication and commitment to his students at UM. For the past six years he has
taken time out of his busy schedule to teach Caribbean Law. This is a course
which interests a number of our students, and, given our location in South
Florida, it is an important part of our international and comparative law
curriculum. CAROLINE BRADLEY Professor of Law University of Miami School of Law

Great instincts
IT WAS MY pleasure to practice law
with David Rowe during his early years as a lawyer and later as a partner at
Holland & Knight. I have never met or practice law with any lawyer, young or
old, who had better instincts about how to serve clients and to network for
their benefit.
David brought all of his
substantial mental prowess as a lawyer, his upbringing in the home of a
prominent jurist father and teaching mother, the thorough international
understanding of people and cultures and all of his other substantial
relationships developed as an adult to focus on how he could better serve his
clients, his community and others who were fortunate enough to be colleagues and
friends. He has continued to this day to demonstrate and mature all of these
valuable attributes, and it is a lucky client to have him as a lawyer and lucky
person to have him as a friend.

True professionalI have known David personally and
professionally for many years and let me say that he conducts all aspects of his
life at the highest level. I know
that he will continue to do so in the future the future. JAMES NEAL HUTCHINSON, ESQ.
